Melbourne Incident

Yesterday's attack in Melbourne unfortunately serves as a reminder that the threat of terrorism is ever present.

Fortunately no life was lost and we wish the victim of this incident a full and quick recovery. The consequences could have been far worse.

The work of the Joint Counter Terrorism Teams is vital to protecting our community and they deserve praise for their constant vigilance.

There is unprecedented cooperation between intelligence and law enforcement agencies across the nation and they are working tirelessly to minimise the threats we face.

Since the terror threat level was raised in 2014 there has been five previous attacks, 85 people now have been charged with terror related offences and there has been 36 counter-terrorism related operations around Australia.

Our prime priority as a Government is to ensure the safety and security of all Australians.
