Communities affected by the Tasmanian bushfires can now apply for Economic and Community Recovery Grants to help boost their long-term recovery.
The grants form part of the $9.9 million Economic and Community Recovery Package provided through the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Federal Minister for Emergency Management Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said supporting local recovery initiatives was crucial for disaster-affected communities.
"These bushfires had a devastating impact on Tasmanian communities which is why we are taking a community-led approach to help build resilience," Minister Reynolds said.
Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman said the Commonwealth and Tasmanian governments were continuing to support the long-term recovery of communities impacted by the bushfires.
"A total of $500,000 will be made available to fund a range of initiatives, including supporting community recovery, restoring community networks, and revitalising the local economy," Premier Hodgman said.
"There is also a focus on preparedness and emergency planning projects to build knowledge and capabilities that support community resilience for future disasters."
Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Senator Richard Colbeck said communities were still dealing with the impacts of the bushfire season.
"These grants will support the ongoing economic recovery effort and help local governments and community groups address their immediate and long-term needs,'' Senator Colbeck said."
Local governments, non-profit organisations and businesses with an ABN are invited to apply for funding to deliver projects and initiatives that will support areas most impacted by the fires including the Central Highlands, Derwent Valley, Huon Valley and West Coast local government areas.
The $9.9 million Economic and Community Recovery Package is in addition to funds already made available under the DRFA to help affected individuals, families, small businesses and local councils with their recovery from the bushfires.
