Disaster assistance has been made available for the local government areas of Fraser Coast, Gympie and South Burnett in Queensland which were recently affected by severe thunderstorms.

Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Linda Reynolds, who has responsibility for Commonwealth disaster assistance, said the severe weather damaged public infrastructure and affected primary producers who lost crops to hail damage.

"Funding is available to support primary producers and assist with repairing flood damaged assets, including local roads," Assistant Minster Reynolds said.

"The NDRRA assistance will also support response operations undertaken to protect the community."

"It is important that these communities receive the assistance they need to get back on their feet as quickly as possible."

Queensland Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Craig Crawford said the thunderstorms caused localised flooding that resulted in road closures and debris damage.

"Many primary producers across the region were affected and homes were damaged by hail and strong winds," Mr Crawford said.

"These assistance packages demonstrate the commitment of the Commonwealth and Queensland governments to act quickly to help disaster affected communities with their recovery."

"We are continuing to monitor the situation and will extend assistance further as required."
