​Disaster assistance has been made available for the Armidale community affected by the December 2018 bushfire.

Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Minister for Emergency Management and North Queensland Recovery Senator the Hon. Linda Reynolds CSC said the bushfire burnt for a number of days destroying more than three thousand hectares of land and impacting parts of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.

"The bushfire was fuelled by days of high temperatures that threatened lives and caused major disruptions to nearby communities," Minister Reynolds said.

"A range of assistance is now available, including grants for eligible individuals to assist with the cost of replacing household items or completing essential structural repairs to homes.

"Assistance is also available to assist councils with counter disaster operations and restoration of essential public assets, as well as small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations directly impacted by the disaster."

NSW Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant said that significant firefighting operations were required in response to the bushfire.

"The NSW Rural Fire Service battled against challenging weather conditions and deployed large numbers of firefighting personnel, appliances and aircraft to combat the bushfire," Minister Grant said.

"I'd like to praise the efforts of our first responders, who did a remarkable job and acted quickly to protect the communities under threat."
