Australian Government assistance extended to Wingecarribee Shire

Payments of $1000 per adult and $400 per child are now available for those worst-hit by bushfire in Wingecarribee Shire.

Assistance is being provided through the Australia Government Disaster Recovery Payment.

Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the payment would help to provide dignity for those who had suffered a catastrophic loss.

“This is for people whose home has been severely damaged or destroyed, who’ve been seriously injured or who’ve lost a family member,” Minister Littleproud said.

“We’re also making the Disaster Recovery Allowance available to people who have lost their income because of the bushfires.

“This gives eligible people up to 13 weeks income support while they are getting back on their feet.

“This support package is on top of the assistance being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

“We will stand shoulder to shoulder with communities facing bushfires and will make more assistance available as it is needed.”

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance have been activated in the local government area of Wingecarribee.

Claims are now open. For more information or to make a claim visit www.humanservices.gov.au/disaster or call 180 22 66.
