Celebrating Australian citizenship day

More than 5,500 people will complete their migration journey today, as they make their pledge to become Australian citizens at more than 50 ceremonies nationwide.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles MP, will attend a citizenship ceremony to mark Citizenship Day in Melbourne’s south-east today, with Member for Aston, Mary Doyle MP where they will meet with some of the 63 New Zealanders who will become citizens today.

New citizens will be represented from over 140 nations participating in ceremonies across Australia throughout the week of Australian Citizenship Day.

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world with the 17 September, Australian Citizenship Day, dedicated to celebrating the value and significance of Australian citizenship, and the privileges and responsibilities it embodies.

The Government is committed to creating clear, streamlined pathways to citizenship and is proud of the over 25,000 New Zealanders who have now applied to become citizens under the Albanese Labor Government’s new direct pathway.
