Vietnam is one of Australia’s key regional partners. Our countries enjoy a mutually beneficial partnership across a wide spectrum of political, security, economic and people to people activities. Today Australians born in Vietnam represent the fifth largest migrant community in Australia.
Australia places great significance on this relationship. Australia and Vietnam have a matured and diversified partnership, encompassing wide-ranging cooperation on political issues, trade and investment, defence and security, policing, immigration, transnational crime, people smuggling and people trafficking. It demonstrates our commitment to move forward into the future together.
Vietnam is a regional trade partner of increasing significance to Australia, representing Australia’s fastest growing export market in ASEAN during the 10-year period 2003-2013 with average annual growth of 16.3 per cent. Two-way trade between our nations in goods and services was valued at $10 billion in 2014.
Vietnam and Australia will continue to build upon our relationship, and the Australian Government looks forward working together with Vietnam for generations to come.
