Bill Shorten’s latest ‘new’ policy on illegal boat arrivals – that Labor will now turn-back the boats – is already unravelling.
Labor’s divisions were highlighted at the weekend conference of the Tasmanian Labor Branch which rejected the idea of Labor ever turning boats back.
The Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton said today the latest iteration of Labor’s policy on illegal boats has lasted less than a month.
“This is Labor’s now dominant Left of which Tanya Plibersek is the leading light telling Bill Shorten they won’t support him,” Mr Dutton said.
“The Tasmanian Labor Branch branded Bill Shorten ‘fundamentally wrong’ – it shows he will never turn-back a boat and that his claims that Labor would do so are nothing more than an attempt to mislead Australians.
“Tanya Plibersek is Labor’s Deputy Leader she will ensure Bill Shorten does nothing more than talk about turning-back illegal boats.
“Australians well remember Kevin Rudd said he would turn-back people smuggler boats, but then allowed 800 boats carrying more than 50,000 people to breach Australia’s borders.
