Boosting practical support for disaster-affected communities

The Morrison Government is providing a $275,000 grant to redevelop the GIVIT Online Disaster Management Portal.

GIVIT has rapidly become an important resource when responding to disaster-affected communities across Australia.

The donation management portal supports almost 2,600 charities and community groups across Australia to access vital items for those in need.

“Australians respond quickly and generously when disasters occur, but often such generosity attracts significant volumes of donations, which can be impractical or exceed community needs,” Minister Reynolds said.

“This funding means GIVIT will now have the capacity to activate across simultaneous natural disasters nationally, ensuring donated items are being effectively distributed to where they are needed most.

“Connecting the generosity of Australians with charities and matching donated goods directly with those in need saves valuable time and volunteer resources.”

The funding is being provided through the 2018-19 Disaster Resilience Australia Package (DRAP).

The Morrison Government is committed to making sure disaster-affected communities feel supported and confident as they recover and rebuild.
