Payments of $1000 per adult and $400 per child are now available to those worst-hit by the recent bushfires in the Eurobodalla, Queanbeyan-Palerang and Shoalhaven council areas.
Assistance is being provided through the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment.
Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management, David Littleproud said the money was to help give dignity to those who’d suffered the biggest losses during the fires.
“This is for people whose homes have been badly damaged or destroyed, who’ve been seriously injured or who’ve lost a family member,” Minister Littleproud said.
“This is immediate assistance and can help cover costs while waiting for things like insurance to come through.
“It will take time for lives to return to normal and these payments will help to make the recovery smoother and quicker.
“This payment is on top of earlier assistance provided in partnership with the NSW Government.
“We will continue standing by these communities and make further assistance available as it is needed.”
Claims will be open from Wednesday 11 December 2019. For more information or to make a claim visit www.humanservices.gov.au/disaster or call 180 22 66.
